Hi all,

I'm looking into offering credit card processing for my customers.

I have a PayPal personal account, so i set up a payment page on my website with a "Pay Now" button. But, i seems very limited. The customer can't enter quantities and they can't pay by credit card without creating a PayPal account.

No where does it say on PayPal's site that you have to create or upgrade to a business account before you can slap a "Buy Now" button your website. I suspect that i have to upgrade to a business account before i get the features PayPal says i'm getting when using there - "Website Payment Standard" or "Standard Merchant account" - I think they both mean the same thing.

Am i correct in that i need to upgrade to or add a standard business account?

I believe you just need a premier account or better....at least thats what I needed when I signed up for their Virtual Terminal service.

a personal account can not accept credit cards. Upgrading will cause your account to start having PayPal fees on every transaction you receive.

Website Payments is a "Buy Now" button. you do not need a merchant account unless you want to enter your customer's credit card numbers yourself.

For as slick and nicely laid out as their sit is... They do seem to leave out some key information!

No where does it say you have to have a premiere or business account. And while their is no monthly fee, monthly minimum, setup charge, or cancellation charge for using the Website Payments Standard...

1. Is their a monthly fee for upgrading to a premiere or business account?

2. I find it irritating that if you decide to downgrade your account, you can never upgrade again - You'll have to find another CC processor.

In my opinion go with a better company like chase or a bank. You will get better rates than their $30 per month 2.5% (or other high percent) rate.

I gave up on them a long time ago and use Squareup on my Droid to accept credit cards. its kind of a high transaction fee, but they dont charge you monthly or yearly fees, so its still cheaper.

Is their a monthly fee for upgrading to a premiere or business account? - No. I used to have a premier account and recently upgraded to a business account. There is no monthly fee involved. However, if you have a premier account or a business account, you will be charged a transaction fee on EVERY amount of money you receive, regardless of whether that was a credit card transaction or came from the customer's PayPal funds.

But I agree with you, when I was looking at this myself, their website did not explicitly state details of the no monthly fee situation.

I agree Square is the way to go. I personally don't think there transaction fee is that bad. Its less then paypal was for me. It was a win win for me. Lower transaction fee, lower percentage, and a card reader for my iPhone. I wasn't using VT though I was just using paypal though a browser.

Also every time I pull out my card reader customers are impressed. It makes you look quite professional.

I just did a website for a credit card processing company. I would try giving them a call. www.cocardsystemsny.com They are able to integrate everything for you and from what I know have the best rates in the industry. Give them a shot.. they are great guys and you have nothing to lose by calling them.
