I'm wondering if anyone else is having as many problems as I am with Flash recently. It locks up my browsers, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. I thought it might just be bad programming but it seems to happen on Youtube more often than other sites. I would think that YT is programmed correctly but I may be mistaken.

Is there another option to Adobe flash? I also have had Silverlight crashing fairly often as well.

Oh, for anyone suggesting to update Flash, it is and has been the current version(s) while experiencing this problem.

I often run into flash/shockwave crashes under Chrome. Chrome ships with Flash built-in and runs independently of Adobe Flash Player that IE and Firefox use. I can uninstall Adobe Flash but Chrome still has Flash. You have to disable the Flash plugin within Chrome options.

Yes, YouTube uses an HTML5 player finally, but there are many other self-hosted video solutions that websites use that are Flash only. Internet Speed Testers are also usually flash-based.

I notice that without Flash (and without Ad Block running) websites load faster because the ads are static images.

There is no alternative to Flash that can handle Flash usage on websites. You either run Flash or you don't. As HTML5 catches on for video player usage, we'll eventually see a Flash-less internet, but not for awhile.

You can drop it off at my shop if you want.. I'll give you a free estimate..

Seriously though... reinstall/reset your browsers or something.

I think youtube probably works... they are in the billions of video views a day. Wait a second..... yep just checked it, video played fine.

Flash almost never gives me grief anymore.
(something in your system might be fighting you)

I hate Flash for it's constant vulnerabilities and exploits, I can forgive the occasional crashes (and CPU sucking... and annoying advertisements... gah, I hate Flash!)

I'm looking forward to HTML5, but on the same note I'm a little hesitant.
(I just hope we don't loose too much control and flexibility with our browsing)

Thanks for the replies. AS I sit here I see another Flash crash report prompting on a currency converter site. Maybe there is some malware on my machine - could explain an Outlook issue I'm having as well. Flash supposedly opened up some avenues for malware infections and with all the sites using flash now adays It seems likely that many people could have gotten infected from this vulnerability.

After a malware check (which I sure hope isn't the case) I'd probably consider resetting your web browser (backing up your bookmarks and shtuff, of course) and "starting anew".
The only other thing I can really think of that might be interfering with your Flash is video drivers. Look for an update, or maybe try rolling back if there's no update available. Especially now that Flash uses hardware acceleration, video drivers are more entwined with Flash (and Silverlight).
