Credit card processing nightmare.

Hey fellow 'nibblers, I need some advice.

For over a year now I've been going through my bank (rhymes with "hell's cargo") for my card processing, and from almost day one I've had nothing but trouble with the machine they provided.

I have the FD100ti, which is supposed to be wifi, but for some strange reason it keeps dropping wifi connectivity.

I've had Charter out to the shop to test the modem and the wiring, all good. I've bought a new router (Asus RT-N66U), and everything else (even my finicky wifi networked printer) connects fine and maintains a steady connection.

The only conclusion I can come to is the machine is faulty... But I've already had it replaced...

The first time I had trouble with the device almost right off the bat, and after eventually getting the bank to replace the device, the new one worked fine, up until a month ago...

I'm at a complete loss as to what to do here... I've unfortunately got a lease with these... errr... "people", and can't just walk away without paying.

Is anyone familiar with this machine? Has anyone else been through anything similar?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks guys and gals.

IMO, run as fast as you can from hells cargo. Have a client that has an onsite check deposit machine with them and it has been nothing but problems from the hardware to the software to their website to customer support and service.

While I can't help with your problem, hells cargo seems to be severely lacking in the programming and device quality control issues, so your report doesn't surprise me.

Have you tried changing your access point's security settings to WEP or none temporarily to see if that helps? What about dropping the AP to 802.11b and disabling N?

Thanks for the reply.

I have tried your suggestion in the past, and I'd still get the wifi random drop.

Connecting isn't the issue, it's staying connected that's the problem. It's seems to randomly drop every 24-72 hours. The real pain of it is that the way I find out that it dropped is when trying to run a customer's card... I have to power cycle the machine, then re-run their card... Leaving me looking like a plonker in front of my client.

Can you set a reservation so it doesn't lose it's IP address?
I'm basing this on my experiences with Wi-Fi printers that drop out of the network. WMMV

I was just messing around with that very idea... I cannot seem to find the DHCP setting in my router's firmware (Asus RT-N66U), and my google-fu must be weak today, as I cannot seem to find anything about how do find it.

...Is it beer thirty yet?

Would be something I would recommend.

I can't stand hells cargo. Nothing but issues in the past. Doesn't "RACE" have something to offer like this? :p

It IS possible to go wired, but at this point it's a matter of principle. I was promised a wifi device, and by golly I'll get a wifi device.

Yes, I'm just saying if you cant get good tech support, you cant return it and you are in a contract then I think the wired solution is all you can do.

Yeah, they're offering to replace it yet again...

I did manage to learn something funny about this model; the wifi module is nothing more than a usb adapter held in place by a block of foam under that battery hatch.

Mine's the RT-AC66U with Merlin's firmware but I would imagine perhaps the interfaces are similar?

I go to LAN (on left hand menu), then DHCP server tab, then down the bottom is "Manually Assigned IP around the DHCP list (Max Limit : 128)"

Make sure the Radio Button is set to 'Yes' for 'Enable Manual Assignment'.

There are apparently issues with your model and certain firmware versions:

Hope this helps!

Thank you sir!

It seems the firmware is indeed similar. I set the manual assignment, let's see how this works.

Thanks again!

Wouldn't it be easier to get a square reader and account and link that to your bank instead given that you can get the reader free and you only pay fees per transaction, which might be similar to what you'd be charged on the other right?

Not necessarily. I'd need to get out of this god awful contract with Hell's Cargo, or else I'd be stuck paying them AND Square.

Perhaps some contact breaking is in order. If I were you I may start playing hard ball.. After the next replacement unit arrives, if it still has the same issue and support isn't able to get it resolved.. Hells cargo isn't upholding their end of the contract and your losing time and money. Just a thought.

My thoughts exactly.

Over the phone they're doing everything they can to blame the issue on user error, but as soon as I mentioned "breach of contract" they offered to send another replacement.

On that note, their customer service isn't what I would call "stellar" either...
