Craigslist & You

I just discovered something. Craigslist has a feature that when your post gets so far down the list there is an option next to the edit & delete options. Renew. It puts your post back at the top as if you had just posted it. Just tried it and it worked. Try it and see.

Actually it is based on a timer. I believe its exactly 48 hours

I am still getting hits on my ad, and have picked up several new clients since the first one using this formula.

If you haven't tried it yet, give it a shot - it really works!

Interestingly, I put up an ad due to this post and got an email from a guy near my Minneapolis store for his iPod to get repaired. Nice! 70 miles away :)

No calls locally and our services section doesn't move very fast. Same guys every week. Kinda boring. No flagging, just vanilla. Having help though with doing the bigger market this next week. See what happens.

I always disable the email on Craigslist posts - too much crap comes back, and I figure if someone really needs help they will call. Plus it is much easier to close over the phone than via email (for me anyway).

Just got another call first thing this morning :-)

I have done quite well with CL
I tried about a year ago and got no hits then gave up, but after seeing this post I persevered and got a few new clients
I also got the fix 10 computer scam

Giving it the old college try ;)

Allot of great information on this thread. I am giving CL a shot for the first time... Hopefully something happens, besides spammers.

I do not advertise my rates.

I simply put "Reasonable Rates" Which is $65 per hour.

I also - try to help and diagnose or identify the issue over the phone before anything is discussed in terms of Compensation, or fees. They immediately know within the first 2 minutes, I am legit, I know what I am doing. I ask if they want to schedule an appointment, and im done. Very rarely has a customer asked how much it costs.

Tip 1 - dont put your Hourly rate in your ad. Because the guy at $25 per repair will always get the call.

Tip 2 - Avoid business talk. Focus on the customers problem. Even if you fix it over the phone in 5 minutes - They may call back with something else later.

Tip 3 - Do whatever it takes to be on the top of the craigslist computer services section. If you live in a populated area - Then get 10 craigslist accounts. post 3 times a day with each one. Whatever it takes. Dont forget that :)[/QUOTE]

+1 to JEubanks! This is the sort of practical advice nibblefolks should listen to.

I tried posting on craigslist a week ago, first call was from a small business but they didn't want to pay 75$ an hour to fix their custom access program that was coded by a guy 12 years ago that they lost in touch with. We are located in NY so that rate is definitely a good value. It was somewhat of a shock since they stated all the features the program would automate for them but they resorted to paper and penciling everything.

That's the downside of Craigslist: a majority of the people that are one there are looking for the cheapest deal. I wouldn't let that discourage you; I've gotten some of my best clients from Craigslist.

After reading this a few months ago I thought I'd give it a try. I ended up posting for a few days or so and I ended up with zero calls. This was during a time when things were slow and there were less than 10 others advertising per day in my area. Now there are at least 50 people advertising per day.

I have gotten a lot of great clients from craiglist. I know alot of you have had bad experiences with it but some of my best clients are from CL! Even when i dont post for a couple months i post a couple ads and i get a few calls.
