Craigslist Hall of Shame

No dinero? No problema!

craigslist

We should be thankful bottom feeders exist. If they didn't WE would get their clientele.

Craigslist ads have become like the Onion newspaper or the national enquirer.
Very fun to read when your having a down day.

Around Thanksgiving we should really put some thermal paste in their donation cup. Or drop them an old 10mb NIC or two.

I'm wondering why so scared of blocked numbers, could it be the social security or the tax office he's avoiding?

I'd bet that it's that he wants to avoid talking to angry customers. He probably also won't answer the phone when he knows someone's going to complain.

$5 an hour for no fix? I can see this guy taking a computer and "working" on it for ten hours.

"Sorry boss, couldn't fix it. Don't worry, you get the cheap rate, so you only owe me 50 bucks."

Kinda nice having Craigslist around, a lot of customers who are looking for cheap get filtered that way methinks. And it seems like people who pay the least want most sometimes or is this me?

Wow, wow... Wow!!!

I must admit I HAVE fixed a couple computers for about $60 that had seriousness, time-consuming problems...

However, I ONLY did it because a co-worker begged (repeatedly). I decided I would essentially fix her damned home computer because my choices were 1) Try to ignore her but go insane 2) Fix her computer 3) Quit my job to get away from her, or 4) Kill her...

I chose #2 but charged her $60 because it was JUST enough to try to quash any future tech work from her...

*********************

1. I got there and the computer was so slow I literally could NOT back it up while the OS was running.

2. On Reboot it kept running CHKDSK (as if the hard drive was bad)

3. On Reboot it would also like to hang during POST :D

^^^^^^^^^^ I knew this one was going to be fun *sarcasm* in that it was going to take significant time/effort to repair being there were 60+ malware things installed AND the motherboard was bad (read below).

4. I pulled the HDD to copy stuff out onto a USB drive AND noticed bulging capacitors, lol

[Went home to test HDD because I didn't want to be there all night AND to check warranty for motherboard/HDD]

5. Hard Drive passed but computer was out of Warranty

6. Ordered new Motherboard

[Another Visit]

7. Installed Motherboard and HDD

8. Format/Install of Windows, updates, software, and her files...

Done! She finally left me alone.

Now, imagine offering to fix anything for $60 on Craigslist!!! It is and advertisement that will get you problems like the one I dealt with above only no money.

I, of course, actually fixed the problem. The $10 or $20 tech probably isn't going to fix it. They are probably going to try over and over to install some pirated version of Windows on a computer with bad hardware.

Had a lady come in on friday. She brought two laptops. The first one was an old inspiron 9400. Its missing the front bezel, hinge cover, keyboard, ram cover, wifi cover. Apparently she took it to some guy on craigslist and supposedly while it was being "repaired," the "tech"s cleaning lady threw away all the pieces that are now missing. This guy had some cajones though, because he had the audacity to still charge her 125, and his solution was to give her a d620 with no hard drive, no battery, no charger. That's the second laptop she brought in.

The 9400 has a new screen so I am surmising he was changing out the lcd. The problem is the video card is bad.

Still haven't finished diagnosing either, but I'm thinking if the latitude checks out we can take the hdd and charger from the 9400 and use them on the d620, still need the hdd tray though. Thinking about also giving her credit trading in the 9400 screen even though we won't normally do that.

Weird thing is she wants to fix both..

Actually writing that out gave me a vision of what happened -

He replaced the screen, still no video, tried the cable(thats why the hinge cover and keyboard were off) , still no video - than either a) goes in to a crack binge fueled rage and hulk smashes the keyboard and bezel, or b) damaged too many pieces to put it back together. He then makes up the cleaning lady story because it sounds less crazy than what actually happened.

Just stumbled upon this one. Based upon his flawless spelling and grammar alone, he has to be legit.

A few of my favorite words:
"ventlaction"
"generaction" used that one at least three times
"rarley"
