CPU Tempertures

I have a ASRock B75M-ITX Motherboard with stock CPU fan the CPU is a Intel i5 2400 3.1Ghz Quad Core Socket 1155 H2 6mb Cache, it running Temperature is 55.0C to 56.0C, is this ok or can anybody tell where to get the Temperature information for this CPU.

I generally don't worry about the CPU temp unless I see it hitting high 70's+.

You don't mention if that's under load or just idle. If that's idle, it may be a little high. Usually see high 30's to low 40's for an idle CPU.

Maybe a better CPU Fan is required, that is temperature is at idle.

So the computer is outside? Ambient. As in the temperature around the computer.

+1. I usually run CPUTemp and Prime and if the CPU temp is stable under 70C after 10-15 minutes, I'm done. (105C is a max CPU temp rating that comes to mind but check the specs.) If not, time for fresh heat-sink compound and a look at air circulation within the case. Often, a case fan will be trying to pull air from the case, as is the PSU fan, which limits circulation unless the case has a lot of other entry openings. I reverse the case fan so one pulls air from while the other pushes air into it.

Exercise the machine and then check the temps. Idle temps are useless, you need to know if you are properly dissipating heat from the CPU and then venting from the chassis.

Is this machine already loaded and running Windows ? If so run something like an A/V scan, then some video test program or anything that will work up the machine. Run Speccy or similar each time to see if cpu temps are grossly different from gpu or mobo temps.

Sometimes a low idle temp will skyrocket because once it starts getting hot the computer can't vent properly. So ambient room temp is trivial, ambient CHASSIS temp is critical so just don't focus on your CPU fan.

Air cooled, stock heat sink and fan, at idle, 50-60C below 90F (32C) ambient is acceptable to me. If your ambient is higher than that, you should be turning the AC on or something. 60-70C @ Idle below 32C Ambient is iffy to me. Above 70C @ idle, below 32C ambient, your not dissipating correctly, your thermometer is defective in the CPU area, your voltage is too high (seen it), or your stock cooler isn't strong enough.

Ambient means a lot to me, not just cause I'm in Arizona where everyone leaves all the doors and windows open, AC turned off, and it's 100+ outside.

Also, make sure the case is adequately bringing air in, and taking air out. Alot of these MiniATX cases have a fan, and that's the CPU fan. It pisses me off cause I'll have 80C @ idle and it's 60F ambient.

How is the airflow and how many case fans are there? Make sure you have the proper intake and exhuast fans. I think those temps are OK but at the same time you are using a stock cooler.
