I just purchased a Coolmax IDE to SATA Multifunction Converter and have attempted to connect seagate hard drive 3.5 IDE......device manager showing that a usb drive is listed but not being recognized in my computer...I have tried master, slave and cable select. Anyone have one of these devices in your tool kit and had problems with it? This is my 2nd one .......first one did the same thing!

The controller is probably fried on the drive if it's not being recognized by the computer. You can try mounting it on a Linux based system like Ubuntu. Sometimes that can do the trick.

I have used and suggest avoiding this brand (and Bytecc as well) adapter and instead suggest and have three of the Rosewill RCW608 units and haven't had any issues with constant usage over many months.

(Really I'd suggest ONLY the Rosewill these days after having also used several others which I no longer recall the name of the manufacturer for now.)

Also, did you look in Computer Management by chance? Have you opened Device Manager and had it "Scan for hardware changes" as I have to do this with an Esata drive I own...just a few thoughts that might help.

I think that I will check out the other models that was suggested here........Thanks for the input.
