Engineering client I intherited. 5 year old server running SBS 2003, no Exchange, no SQL - just AD, file and app server. About 300 GB of data.

Yes I know they need a new server but it won't be happening until end of 2015 and that's all there is to it, unfortunately.

They are already backing up to external hard drives but have recently managed to lose or break some backup drives and now have decided that they want cloud backup. Their internet is good, 100 Mbps synchronous.

There is also a NAS containing about 300 + GB of data that they may want to include in any package.

I see Datto recommended a lot here but they don't operate in Ireland.

Servosity, XZ Backup and Rebit are all offering specials through ACRBO.
Anyone have any feedback on these?

I could have sworn Datto covered Ireland.
My second sales rep is in charge of their expansion in the UK....I just got an e-mail out to him, I'll let you know what I find out.

Thanks Stonecat. I don't see it on their site and they're not promoting the the channel here, as far as I can see.

This may be basic compared to some suggestions here, maybe dropbox and just sync the shares to the server.

Nothing wrong with adding a Cloud solution. But make sure and go through the whole mechanics of the process with the customer. Can't tell you the number of times I've had customer complain that they had picked/been sold some cloud solution and no one covered the realities.

Things like 500gb could take several days to download depending on the connection type and reliability.

I make sure that if who ever we look at will support sending out a drive to direct connect to the network for seeding the backup. And that they can do the reverse if needed - sending a drive to the site if there is a catastrophic event (like everything gets stolen).

I use and sell DataBunker, for an initial large amount of data they will send you an external drive to backup to so they can seed their data centre when you return it. This way you don't have to wait a week or so with a constant backup running.

You looking for disaster recovery/image type of backup? Or just plain data folders? If just plain data folders...you do any stuff at Rackspace? They have JungleDisk...which is about the lowest cost offsite backup I've seen.

I'm looking at both tbh, but I know in my gut that this client will probably only go with folder backups and will deal with replacing the server entirely if it goes down.

I have no dealings with Rackspace. We're about 3-4 years behind you guys in NA as our infrastructure has lagged behind and clould really wan't an option for most of us. Furthermore I'm in a rural area where BB speeds are still mostly in <20\2 Mbps range

20/2 is OK for offsite backup. I have some clients on Datto units with multiple servers on connections slower than that. Believe it or not once client with 2x servers...large drives, lots of data...on an old school T-1...1.5/1.5 megs.

My Datto guy just got back to you....I will PM you some info including the name/e-mail addy of the Datto guy responsible for the Emerald Isle!. If you could PM me back with your name and your e-mail address so I can pave the road for you.
