Clone a Micro SATA / U-SATA

So, It's the first time as a tech it has been necessary to clone a Micro SATA HD.

The customer brought in a Dell Latitude E4200 which currently has a 64GB Micro SATA / u-SATA drive installed.

I have tried booting from Acronis True Image - Backing the drive up to an external USB drive and then was going to fit the new one and restore it. This is proving difficult though. I keep getting an error message.

Anyone got experience of doing this? Is it worth buying some better cables / adapters?

I had a dead machine come in with one of these... bought a nice enclosure for the drive off of Amazon - usb 3, works great... ended up getting two and buying a msata drive for backing up data on site

I bought a Startech cable in the end - Micro Sata to normal sata with lp4 power.

I can't get the PC I use for cloning to recognize that the drive is even plugged in.

No computer will recognize the drive - am I doing something wrong or do you think the cable/adapter was DOA?

I suggest that you might want to consider contacting PCImage.co.uk to see if the drive is actually healthy and pay them to make the copy for you.

As for a new adapter, check with microsatacables.com...they might have what you are looking for.

I think possibly the adapters I ordered didn't work with the type of drive I am trying to clone. Going to order some different ones and see how that goes. Spoken to Sean at PCImage, told me it was vital that the voltages were right and make sure the adapter is correct for the drive I am trying to clone.

So just in case anyone is interested - I ordered some different adapters with the different voltages and they worked a treat. Cloned as usual with Acronis. Thought I'd post my remedy in case others face the same issue.
