Anyone use Clearwire WiMax ?
What has been your experience with it?
I've been on the 3-6 Mbps plan for three months since I got the service. We rarely get 3 mbps, it seems. I've had two drops outs that last for hours because of apparent "maintenance" with the local tower. Tonight I've had frequent drop outs lasting for about 4 hours. I asked clearwire support to confirm with tier 2 support whether more maintenance was going on and it turns out no maintenance is happening. My modem appears to be working.
I just got curious and starting reading reviews about Clear and a lot of people are unhappy with it due to frequent drops and unreliable speeds.
I know there's another WiMax ISP that uses a different tower near by...Broadband Wireless (I think). I friend of mine who does web development says he uses it and gets guaranteed 1.5 Mbps down. I may be switching over to them, because I know that when I start my bus in about 3 more months I don't want to deal with connections dropping while doing remote support, or anything else for that matter. When I get a cell phone for my bus it will probably be a 4g device that I can use as a back up Internet connection that I can tether to one of my computers; great tool if needing an Internet connection onsite where Internet is down, too; great all-one-tool, if you will...
