"Certificate cannot be verified up to a trusted cert authority"

Last week I renewed the third party SSL certificate on our SBS 2008 server.

It imported fine without any errors, however since importing the certificate users outside of the network now get the certificate warnings below when attempting to access our server via https://remote.ourdomain.co.uk (to access remote web workplace).

I don't get why it says that the certificate cannot be verified up to a trusted certification authority when it is in fact from a trusted authority (AlphaSSL/GlobalSign).

Internally on the network going to https://remote.ourdomain.co.uk the certificate details display fine and it says "GlobalSign has identified the site".

I'm thinking whether the certificate needs applying in IIS somewhere to the remote site? Just a guess though.

Any ideas? I'm going to remove the certificate and re-add it next but it would be good to establish what the actual problem is.
