CCNA network discovery

I took the CCNA course at the local community college before they went to discovery/exploration. From my understanding, discovery is the more hands on approach versus exploration which is more theoretical. I myself learn better with more hands on but everyone is different. CCNA wasn't to bad. The hardest part is getting all the terms and technologies down and everything is very new. I found the CCNP courses to not be as difficult because the building blocks were all there. Good luck in the course and if you have any questions let me know!

Thank you for your view will keep what you said in mind, will post if i get a bit confused with some of it or all. Thank you again for your help.:D

How long ago did you take the test? I am going to take the ccent and then follow it up with icnd2 hopefully within a month, It is a TON of info to digest.

Sadly I am a moron and never took the test. I took the CCNA course 4 years ago (test has changed from 640-801 to 640-802). From there i went on and took network security which isn't part of the network academy curriculum anymore. After that I took the CCNP courses. I know all the information I just need to take the test. Im getting ready to take 802 here soon actually and will immediately work on CCNP.

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason your taking the icnd1 and 2 rather than the full 640-802 test? I saw both paths and figured a single test would be better than two but if theres an advantage to taking the two tests I'd most definitely entertain it.

Too much info for me to remember at one time. It costs the same overall and I know the info I need for the first half. Access-lists I have heard are a bear on the test and I would rather be able to focus more study time on them than wonder what is going to be on the combined.

I have talked to a bud in ATL who works with a bunch of Networking people, he mentioned that people tended to be in favor of splitting it up because of the amount of info you have to test for. I don't get to use the info day to day so I'm trying to maximize the possibility of passing. I feel confident in working on routers and switches, just not a great test taker.

I hear ya on the not a great test taker. I'm not either. Maybe I'll look into taking the two separate tests. Problem with Cisco tests is that if you miss a question, they start giving you more questions of the same type. Basically they are trying to make you fail. Which causes their certificates to mean something as well as more money in their pocket. (You fail, you pay again i believe)

ACL's can be tricky but don't make them more complicated than they really are. Problem is they can be used for so many different things. Not only as a means of security, but also a means of classifying traffic. This makes them used just about everywhere.

Missed it by a matter of 4 points, I know where to focus and will do better on the next try, it is a tough test test.

Bad luck. I remember how bad I felt when I failed one of my MS exams...and then how super high I felt when I went back and passed it easily. Sometimes you just get the approach of the exam wrong and miss it despite knowing almost all you need to know. A bit of fine tuning and plenty of practice questions and you go back a ace it.

Sorry to hear that, at least you now know what the test is like so it'll go better next time! curious, do you have to pay again if you don't pass to retake?
Yep, another $125 to VUE.
Thanks for the support, I know the info I just need to know it better, it is a beast.

Passed today. Still a taxing test. I actually thought I did worse on this one that last time. On to ICND2

Cool! Glad to hear that, I am on the second of four CCNA classes that I have been taking, some of the stuff has been hard to figure out exactly what answers they want.
