Captain, the ship doesn't feel right

There's an episode of Star Trek where Scottie calls up to Kirk saying "the ship doesn't feel right". Of course, Spock heaped much Vulcan doo doo on this illogical statement.

I've thought of this often when I let a computer go out the door that "doesn't feel right". Odds are 9 - 1 I'll see it again real soon.

Anyone else experience this?

Haha - Yep, I know exactly what you mean. I always kick myself when the customer rings up and I know instantly what they're going to say. Especially if it's an onsite job and you've got to trek 10miles each way for nothing.

Luckily, I'm getting fewer and fewer surprises like that as time goes by.

heh yeah... It's always those details you MEANT to check or MEANT to do but figured, "nahhhh it couldn't be that....." that bite you in the ass!!

After 30 years working in the hospital Emergency Room (my first career), I have learned to be sensitive to the little feelings I get. It isn't any kind of supernatural thing. We have just accumulated knowledge and experience and even if we cannot point to an actual event in the past that would support our hunch, it sits there in the repository accessible by our subconscious. I think we should accept it and listen to it. If one of my senior nurses says "this guy just doesn't look right" I pay close attention.

After years of tech-ing, I found the concept transferrable. Sometimes it just doesn't feel right and I take a longer look at what is going on. (Don't we all just love HiJack This logs?)

The difference with tech work is if I miss the clue, no one dies.
