I've got a Vista machine here that is booting to an 0x0F4 BSOD in both normal and safe mode. This is a really general error but I think it's some driver or service. The computer gets all the way to showing the mouse/arrow and then fails. Unfortunately, I can't get any hint as to what item is failing as the darned thing refuses to create any logs, no event log, no mini dumps, nothing even in CBS.LOG after using SFC.

I've disabled all the non-microsoft services and drivers (at least that I can identify), like for the antivirus and a few other components and that has not helped. No apparent virus activity, MBR is clean, file system is clean and hardware checks out fine.

I'm a little frustrated about the logs but I don't want to obsess over them but rather try and identify the failing process. I'm looking for any suggestions on other ways to do that.

You think he's still working on this machine for the past 2 1/2 years?
