We have a windows 2000 pc (a power plant controls computer) that previously had a static ip assigned to it. We couldn't get it to boot so we re-installed 2000 over top to get it to boot. Now we have winnt1 and wint2 (?) folders so I am hoping we can find what it used to be. This pc connects into a series of PLC switches and controls and there isnt an interface to see the ip scheme.

Obviously right now the pc has a dynamic address but it used to have a static ip.. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Was that machine part of a group of machines or devices where it might have had a host/machine/subdomain name above the domain name ? Something like machine.domain.com ?

If so try to find out what domain name was used locally and then pull up the full dns record for the domain from the name servers and see if you can find a machine name that looks familiar.

The win 2000 machine was a wall mount (non touchscreen) that controlled a series of PCL's and mechanical switches. These are housed on a control center. This controls the switches in a power plant, so it is very critical.

But I think we have found the ip's... they were on a 1.1.1.x address.

And NO domain, this was the controller software for the mechanical devices.

Mechanical relays

The Post Office, in large plants, had a system somewhat as you describe back in the mid 90's. It was used for the HVAC (heating & cooling) system. It used mechanical switches and sensors, which could be controlled at one windows station. That brings back some memories.
