Business in November

Figured I start a "How's business in November" thread. It's been below average for me so far...

Its been below for me too. I am seeing more business on the hosting side of things vs. the repair side.

Speaking of hosting, did anyone see Intuits new website commercial? Apparently they implemented some sort of website builder for customers to "easily create there own sites" and charge nothing but a $5 a month fee. Perfect timing, just when I ramped up my hosting game.

Steady trickle. And usalaptoprepair.com(the mail order side of things. Actually it just redirects to cvlr at this point) has been pretty dead for months ever since our glorious fuhrer started flexing his commy muscles... People are scared to spend money that they may not have later.

Someone in another thread was asking who they can sub out laptop repair too, I mentioned your name. Just an FYI :)

Better than last month

November has been better than last month for us so far. Yesterday was nuts and We filled our entire bench just after getting it cleared the day before.

A little too busy for me. I haven't been able to fix that bug on my website yet :(. I lost one customer because I didn't have a website up- I might just put some placeholder up soon until I can fix the bug.

So my success with laptops and virus work the past few months is because "our glorious fuhrer started flexing his commy muscles" ?.

Maybe you can try not to politicize this and try to focus on the real reason your business is dying ?

And so it begins. Lets keep this a clean fight- I don't want to see any blows below the belt. Let's get it on!

I kid, I kid. Let's not turn this into a political debate. Besides, calling our current (or any) President a "Fuhrer" implies that you are relating him to Hitler. Last I checked none of our Presidents ordered the murder of millions of people (including my Great-Great Grandparents)

Back on topic- Business is good, but no time for myself or my side projects. I'm going to have to become better at scheduling things since I don't have no time for nothing anymore...

Crazy busy... getting a couple new clients each week. And somehow I figured I had a couple free moments, so I joined the Chamber of Commerce and Toastmasters :)

It has been steady on my side of things. This last week I have been booking my usual 2 calls a night to occupy my 4 hours between work and sleep. Only thing I have noticed is that the calls dim down around Thursday leaving me with very little calls on the weekend if any. Last weekend there were none but then several customers calling on Monday. Maybe they think I am closed on the weekend?

Thanks :) Yeah the B2B side of things is fairly steady. Nothing like it was a year ago though. Seemed like I was doing repairs for everyone with a computer shop. The 300 dollar netbooks have seriously cut into the laptop repair business.

Really? I'm finding most of my customers don't "get" netbooks. Too hard to type on, too slow etc...

Mind you, most of my clients are medical clinics and manufacturers. The doctors want fancy laptops and the manufacturers are practical, and want workhorse desktops.

Well I'm not as busy as I'd like to be, but I've been getting more calls than ever. My yellowbook ad just came out and I've been getting steady calls from that, the internet, and the newspaper. I booked 3 appointments in one day a few days ago, which is a record for me (just started this summer). So while I'm not super busy, things are looking up, and I hope it continues to go well.

I read an article about a new $249 Acer LAPTOP coming to Best Buy. Besides the Celeron processor, it has pretty nice specs

2.2GHz, 15.4-inch LCD with 1280 x 800-pixel resolution, 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, dual-layer DVD writer, 802.11n wireless, and integrated graphics. Windows 7 Home Premium -- 64-bit, even -- is pre-installed.

Add that to the Intuit $5 website design, and it's a good month to quit for me haha :p

I haven't really been able to advertise, so I'm relying solely on my Yellow Pages ad. My ad budget comes out of my SSI check, and money has been so tight that I've been dipping into my overdraft protection, so I really don't have the money to put myself out there in the way that I should be. I have advertising plans, but I haven't been able to activate them. So for me I get a stray call every so often and that's about it. I'm waiting until the beginning of the year when hopefully I will have more money and I will be advertising data transfers and other services related to people's new Win 7 computers.

Acer laptops (The cheep ones.) are like a gateway drug for us... People buy the computer... use it... get it infected... try to clean it themself. Decide that they just bought it so they bring it in to get all fixed up.

Usually the people buying the $249 laptop don't buy AVAS or put any protection on so it is just a matter of time. They usually decide on a full restore because it is cheeper and away we go for an easy profit. Don't let the cost of the equipment get you down.

Steady as usual.

We have some pretty big CCTV jobs going right now as well as a pretty decent networking job. And the calls seem to never stop when it comes to PC/camera service.

Out of curiosity, do you use mostly IP cameras now? I was looking to expand my services into CCTV. I was looking into AXIS equipment since it seems like they offer pretty good solutions.

We have a school coming up that is going to be IP based. But other than that a lot of customers dont seem to want to fork over the extra it costs for the cameras.

We stick with a PC based type DVR and use Geovision cards for the most part. You cannot beat the price/quality.

When we do IP or PTZ cams we usually use Bosch though. We seem to have the most success with them.
