Business Cards: What works?

I'm starting up a new business in which I will be heavily advertising towards college students, in doing so I felt it necessary to make my business carry a fun motif which naturally should extend to my business cards.

In making my business cards very stylized have I sacrificed or overlooked tried and true methods that computer technicians have used on their business cards?

Any additions you feel I should make as well as any critiques would be very much appreciated.

Also, what has worked for you in the past?

Gah! wasn't expecting that. Love the little character though. I personally feel that adding a mascot to your company improves the overall appearance of professionalism, although something is daunting about that zombie...the drool maybe a little too much, or maybe just those un-dead eyes.Either way I love it and here is my comments. The side with your name on it would look great if you added some color to the name, which in turn turns attention to your name. the area where you pronounce your name would look a little better maybe if it were a dark grey instead of a black, and go for the medium/regular weight for that font instead (only if you choose to go grey)Other than that, I think it's fantastic. from what I can tell, you won't need "Hours available" on the card since zombie tech implies "late hours" and the zombie himself will without a doubt attract a younger crowd, but will in turn also turn off a more mature target audience.I think it works and I really like it, A+ from me :)

P.S. I don't know why my text is coming out as a giant wall of text. I seperated it and everything. Sorry :(

Thanks a lot for your critique! I've gotten the daunting comment a few times about the undead eyes heh, we'll see what comes of it.

One of my concerns with the back was that attention to the details like my name would be overshadowed by the graphic. Thanks for pushing me over the edge on making it stand out more, I'll see what can get done.

I'm really glad that you liked it. I'll be sure to post up the edits in a bit.

I think it looks great and the creativity is A+

Good luck to you, and I would love if you could comment back in a little while to let us know how things are going for you

All the comments are really encouraging, thanks.

I'll be sure to post more on here as more of my business is developed. Next up is the website and after that are bookmarks.

What college student wouldn't love a bookmark, right? At least, that's what I'm hoping for, heh.

With the first glance, I would have no idea what your business is or what you do. First thing I would do is get rid of the character. It's cute, but you want to present a professional image, whether to college students or the rest of the public. Even college students want to make sure you're not just another student working on pc's part time and leaving cheetos prints everywhere you go.

Unique/Original/Humorous artwork, clean layout. Definitely appeals to younger/college crowd. And, come on, who doesn't love zombies?

Not sure what your pricing is on data recovery, but if you're targeting college students, you should definitely make that your sweet spot. You'll be a lot of people's hero when a big paper is due tomorrow and their HD fails.

Thanks for your input Angry_Geek.

Perhaps it's a regional difference or even an age difference but, I've always felt that an excellent way to differentiate yourself from competitors is to create an image and market that image. In addition, I don't feel that an image detracts from professionalism if executed in a clever way.

I agree that Zombies may seem a bit silly, but why can't computer repair be a bit silly? I've always considered a business with a sense of humor to be more personable and therefore easier to approach.

@ChicagoRob - That's what I'm saying, who can't get a good smile from a Zombie? Thanks for the support.

I'm developing my pricing scheme and an ad campaign specifically targeted towards data recovery and virus removal. Being a student, I know what a lost paper can do to a student's morale, heh.

I don't think the issue is so much of an age issue as it is a generational issue. My generation (I'm 21) and every generation after mine will be completely OK with that logo. Its very memorable and I think the bookmarks are a great idea. You also have a specific target audience which will help you focus your efforts in the future. Well done!

PS: lose the droll and make you're name "zombie" green. It will look much better.
