So I've decided I want a new hackintosh, my old one is on leopard and its in a crappy dell xps 200 and was starting to get really buggy.

So what I'd like:

1)cheap
2)proven stable
3)at least dual boot to win7/prefer triple to ubuntu also
4)a board with ide + sata
5)at least snow leopard, prefer lion
6)cheap

I have cases, p/s, hard drives, cd drives.. Just need a cheap proven board/cpu that someone has had success with triple boot. Instructions would be nice too :)

Buy a Mac...........

I agree with this. While I would imagine what you are requesting is possible, this is not the place to figure out how it is done. Most members here try to stick to advice that is not contrary to another companies EULA and licensing terms. Besides, a nice Macbook Air or Macbook Pro is hardly that much more than a comparable competitor, and is significantly higher rated by Consumer Reports on a consistent basis.

2)proven stable

I'm slightly confused. You've already built yourself a hackintosh and stated that it is 'really buggy' - so now you want to go and build another? I would say either switch to ubuntu full time or go to the Apple Store...

Best laugh I've had in a long time guys. thanks.

Consumer reports - let me go out and buy a KIA then. You do realize they rate gateways and HPs, almost as highly as your precious mac, right? CR stopped being relevant right around the turn of the millennium..

Also, you really should stop sipping on the apple fanboi kool aid just long enough to at least check prices before you start spouting nonsense. Toshiba and Asus i5, 4gb ram, 15", 500gb hard drive are in the 450-500 range now.. macbook air/pro starts at 1000(and a 13.3" for that price I think, too lazy to check)

Oh ya, and a macbook is gonna be of real help for transfering data, esp between sata and ide drives.. And god forbid I spill something on my keyboard and have to spend double on parts and 20x the labor to change it vs ANY pc laptop out there.

finally, apple's eula means nothing to me.. Jobs was a thief and a liar, every "genius" bar I've heard about needs to be prosecuted for extortion, and I'll never buy a computer that has form at the cost of function.. Can you even change the battery on the new iphones?? Wait, don't answer, I don't care.

Oh, and yes - one implementation of a hackintosh on one hardware setup was buggy.. This obviously means there is no working hackintoshes out there...

my ignore list just quintupled in size

The fact is, it doesn't matter how you feel about the EULA or the price of a system or about Steve Jobs; This isn't the place to discuss something that is forbidden by the license...but there are plenty of forums available for it. I very much doubt that anyone here feels hurt by you including them in your ignore list.

Also, who said anything about consumer reports?

Oh, okay. I read all of the posts, but only skimmed them. Guess I missed that part. :D

I will say Apple's tech and customer support is very good!

Ya, if you're under warranty, they are usually pretty good about boxing your crap up and sending it out for a new one... If you aren't under warranty, you're pretty much a mook if you take anything to the "genius" bar.. I'd let best buy work on my stuff before them.

@cornerstone - No you're a fanboi for your comparable price comment.. Thinking CR is still a reliable source of information just makes you ignorant.(although I guess so did the price thing.......)

Honestly, find the list on here of best/worst manufacturers, and compare it to the CR best laptops list, and then come back and talk. Or, find a good mechanic and ask him what he thinks of CR's top picks for cars..

I genuinely squeal like a school girl when supposed professionals go off on a rant against other techs over opinions they hold in high esteem as facts. You alone are creating a reputation, though I doubt it is a positive sense.

This isnt true, in all cases. I have numerous customers that have taken devices to Apple and had them replaced, even as long as 6 months out of warranty. It is all in how you approach it with the employees, who are empowered to do anything to make a customer happy. If someone goes in acting like you reflect, I doubt that they get very far.

It is a reliable source, and has a huge following. They categorically test everything they review and report on their findings independent of other groups who are bought off by manufacturers. It isnt my primary source, but I will take it over your jaded and seething opinions. I have two MacMinis in my shop that I use from time to time. 4 other machines are Windows PCs, and I have 3 laptops that run Linux. I don't think I am a fan-boy at all. I have always been something of an agnostic when it comes to a preferred platform. As far as price comparisons, I buy what I want and don't worry about cost on the small scale. You are the one that specified in two points that you wanted something cheap. I sincerely doubt that what you want can be accomplished on a flimsy cheap netbook while delivering a comparable experience. Lion runs best on 8GB of RAM, anything less is taking a performance hit. I have not seen any netbooks to date that can utilize more than 4GB or RAM.

I buy my cars based on reliability so I don't have to take them to a mechanic, but I'm probably lucky. I tend to make my own decisions based on research and evidence, which is exactly the opposite of what you are suggesting. I pointed to Consumer Reports as an example of a source that can be verified by anyone. Your local favorite mechanic is not a verifiable source. Its one magazine out of a dozen I read monthly, but the most recent based on actual data.

I suggest that you walk away from this thread and forget about your Hackintosh idea on Technibble. Your further personal attacks and emotion-based bashing will not serve you well. It all comes down to the fact that no one here agrees with your concept to provide any guidance, so you feel embarrassed or have a self-esteem issue. Stop lashing out because of one idea and a supposed ideology you are defending against.

I wouldn't worry, it's par for the course on forums. The more anonymous the person is the more mouthy they are :D

You really have no idea of what you are talking about. You are really nothing but a troll. As far as asking what your mechanic thinks about a CR report for a certain model, go ahead and ask me about Macs. I work on them all day long, and am far from a fanboy (although I do prefer Apple products), and our entire business has been based off them for over 20 years.

Yes, because 15" = netbook

...

I was hoping on a "tech" forum, I wouldn't have to specify that if I'm talking about buying a board and CPU, and I have a case and p/s, and I need a board with sata + ide, I'm not talking about a laptop, but since you still haven't gotten it, "I'm not talking about a laptop"
