Welp everything went wrong in the worst possible way. I ran a few more repair processes, and then set it to boot in diagnostic mode. Now the whole thing refuses to turn on. Welp, I guess I deserved this for going into something without the proper tools.
Bought him a new copy of Win 10 on a USB stick and plan on keeping the code (he already has a valid copy of Win 7)
Thanks for the help, at least now I can tuck this experience under my belt.
