Booting UBCD4Win off thumb drive?

Is this at all possible? I did some searching and the ubcd forums had some people working on doing this but they suddenly stopped posting. I have a client laptop whose CD drive is dead and it's so old that the CMOS battery or HDD isn't readily accessible without stripping the entire laptop apart. Needless to say, I'd like to avoid buying an external CD drive for the moment and be able to boot UBCD4Win off my 16gb thumb drive. I also have other files like installers for anti-virus applications and various tools so I'm not sure if that would conflict with booting.

Thanks in advance.

keep a watchfull eye out for old computers being thrown out i did that years ago, and i removed the cd drives i then got my hands on a ide/sata - usb adapter it saved me buying the external cd, but that was years ago today you could probably find an "old" computer with a dvd writer.

Those instructions call to format the drive with FAT32. That basically means I need to erase the data that I have on there. Unless I can just take the data off, format it, and then put it all back on there. In that case, I may just buy another cheap 1gb thumb drive just for UBCD4Win then.

you will not be able to make a drive that's in use bootable, you will have to format anything you'll use.

It sounds like you are trying to have a partition in the flash drive. I have been looking for a way to do the same. But never found a way. Somehow the process knows that it is a flash drive.

My makes bootable flash drives all the time. I kind of consider him an expert in making a usb flash drive bootable. I cant remember how he explained it to me but it just can't be done.

If you do find a way please share it with us.

That is why I have 2 types of flash drive ones that are bootable and ones that are not.

Try this, for me it was the easiest way to do it:
