Trying to install Windows XP home on a Dell system w/ a brand new drive. Drivers start to load OK, then it says "setup is starting Windows", then the screen goes black for an instant, then a blue screen. It blue screens at this same point every time.

I've tried a new Windows CD. Same result. I've tested the drive. Healthy. I've tested the MB and CPU with PC Check 65. All pass. I only ran 2 RAM passes. OK. PSU tests fine with tester.

What would you suspect? Change BIOS AHCI to IDE? AHCI to ATA?

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524 ....etc)

Well, set the SATA mode to IDE in BIOS, and try to install windows XP.
If you still face the problem than integrate the sata drive to the windows XP ISO file.
Use Nlite to integrate driver, it will automatically include the drive in windows XP files.
It you still have the problem then you can take the help for driver updates for windows XP
to fix your issue.
Before reading your post I tried a different model drive. Same result. This must be a BIOS setting like you speak of or a 3rd party (F6) driver that needs installing. Will report back after I try the BIOS setting thing...
