Ballistic Missile Warning - What would you do?

Not even joking, I'd have stepped outside and just waited to see it. Chances are if it's close then I'd die regardless of shelter, either by being eviscerated, buried alive, or slowly from radiation poisoning.

If I'm going to die in a nuclear blast, I want to at least see it. Seeing a nuclear explosion would be an awesome experience in the truest sense of the word. It would almost be a consolation to witness something so powerful and humbling.

As far as what to do? Missile flight time from NK to HI would be something 30-40 minutes. So by the time they have detected the launch, evaluated it, pass the word down the pipe, etc people in HI might have 20 minutes tops, probably a bit less, to do anything. Unless there is a real shelter in running distance not much you can do.

This reminds me of when I was a kid in IL. I'm old enough to remember, on top of the tornado drills, the civil defense drills and sirens, with the duck and cover drill. Of course we now know that would have been useless. But I guess it's a way to mass condition a populace into thinking things should work out so as to reduce panic.

You aren't kidding, most stick construction isn't much better than being outside. Though if you live in a stone house with a basement, the basement does pretty well. https://it.businessinsider.com/nuclear-explosion-fallout-radiation-survival-shelter-2017-3/

Honestly, the best thing to do if the government knew this was happening would be to stand silent. There is nothing anyone can do to stop it and mass panic would just make for chaos even in areas not under direct attack.
I wonder what the political fallout is going to be on Monday morning. I would want the governors' head on a platter.

Monday is MLK day. Just another work day for us working stiffs. But not for a government employee. So we may have to wait until Tuesday for the fireworks, pun intended.

Greetings all.

I wake up this morning and a few minutes later all the cell phones in my household go off with the following EXTREME ALERT:

BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL

20 minutes later it turns into a false alarm.

What would you do if you received this on your phone?
Probably just sh*t my pants.....

Get my giant freezer and get it downstairs into our “tornado” room. Get a bunch of towels, seal the bottom of the doors, and hop into the freezer and pray that it would protect me from the blast.

States should not have these types of powers to broadcast these types of alerts. FEMA and NORAD should only have the ability to broadcast the alerts.

I am quite confident a missile would never reach any part of the US, even Hawaii. We have many allies in between NK and Hawaii, like Japan, Australia, and our town robust systems to shoot down any type of attack.

I lived in Tokyo in 2013 when Kim Jong Un was threatening to nuke Tokyo. And they actually took it very seriously.

Kim Jong Il (his father) had died in 2011 and the world knew he just talks sh*t. But in 2013, Kim Jong Un was an unknown and could potentially take action. Then of course, being that Japan was so close he had the weapon range to actually hit Japan with very little warning.

I remember there were Anti-missile sites around Tokyo, but particulary around the Imperial palace, like this:

And there were Ospreys buzzing around everywhere too which was pretty awesome to see:
(PS: If you are a Neon Genesis Evangelion fan, you can see the aircraft in Eva were inspired by Ospreys.

Apparently the sea between the two countries had tons of Anti-missile ships in it too.

Spooky experience, I thought about what I would do if there was a strike. I would get to the subway if I was close enough.
If I was home (in an 8th story apartment) I probably wouldnt be able to get to the ground floor fast enough.

I lived in Ikebukuro, so if Tokyo was the target I would have almost definitely been in it.

All joking aside....................
With not many options, I would:
Gather the family together (including pets)
Grab some snacks
Go to a good location and watch the fireworks.

Then all you need is a nice sturdy stone / brick wall and go stand in front of it in some crazy pose. You'll leave behind a nice wall mural that'll confuse some sociologist 100 years from now! :D
Hrmm, I'm thinking crouched with both hands flipping the bird. Maybe tape a stencil on the wall behind me that says "NERDS". That should sufficiently confuse them.

Well there was an ancient Chinese dude caught in a volcanic eruption that got himself preserved doing his last wank. Our ancestors have set the bar high! So keep thinking... you've gotta top several thousands of years of catastrophes and people like us wondering WTF to do about them.
