backing up gpt uefi windows 8

What software for backing up complete gpt/uefi/windows 8 systems are you using. The most important feature we need is the ability to create a bootble version that will do complete backups directly from the computer without having to remove the hard drive.

We use Acronis 2010 for all systems windows 7 and older. We tried the newer version of Acronis and were not happy with it and removed it . We have experimented with Macium and Paragon but as far as I can tell they do not have the feature of creating bootable media that will do a backup(maybe we are not using the correct version), it can only be used to restore a computer.

Not tried them yet but others have mentioned using NetJapan or AOMEI Backupper.

I think aomei backupper will do this. Note!!!! From experience. You MUST create the bootable media from a machine that has gpt/uefi/secure boot in order to get the proper choice on what media to create, otherwise you will be banging your head against a wall. At least with a previous version that's how it was.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am in the process of using backupper. For now, I was only able to get it to boot in legacy mode; I will work on uefi booing later. IdeallyI want to just restore the user files, but It will only restore the whole partition. There is a mode to explore the image, which would allow me to copy the user files, but it is telling me it is locked. That may be user error. I will keep experimenting/researching it.

Well worst case, you could drop the image onto a spare drive, and then hook it up through a dock to the machine once you have it running, and pull the files from there. But as I said, what I experienced, was when you create your bootable media, you MUST be on a machine that has uefi/secure boot in order to create the media that can boot in uefi/secure boot enabled machines. If you create the media from a non uefi machine, it won't do what you are after. For my main system I have a custom desktop with Windows 8.1 pro on it. But it's not a uefi board. I could only create the legacy bootable media. When I tried from a uefi enabled laptop to create my bootable media, it gave me an extra choice when I created the media asking what type I wished to create.

I took your a advice and in installed and created media with a laptop with uefi and secure boot enabled. We did image to a spare drive and pull the files off. It is not ideal, but the only way to image the ssd which was sealed in the tablet.

I'm really starting to be impressed with AOMEI Backupper!

It may soon replace Acronis as my go to "Backupper".
