Possibly just using the search function. Its designed to bring up the most relevant result for what he searched for regardless of age. Then he replys to something because he read it just now, not paying attention to the fact it was posted years ago.
Thats what usually happens when someone revives a bunch of necro-threads.

Is it feasible to flag the reply during composition that the post is over xxx days old? Probably not or it would already be done.
