Auslogics now bundling conduit and search protect

^Yup^. Plus, so long as those files are contiguous and in an "optimized" location when I hand it to them, I can rest knowing that Windows will have no reason to move them and they'll stay in a good spot for quicker access. I usually aim for next-day service (two business days, officially) so leaving it to run a long D&O job overnight is not a problem.

I think we need to be aware of the realities of the software world. The changes from Logmein and Auslogics are only the latest reminders.

The only "free" software is Open Source, and very few of the tools we use as professionals are Open Source.

Everything else is a money making enterprise. In the past, developers would give free access to many of the features of the program or service with the idea that enough people would buy the full version that it was profitable to do so. It looks like that model isn't working so well right now.

If you don't pay up front, then the developer has to find another way to make money. Ads in the app or sponsored toolbars and applications loaded with the install are there to pay the bills. Many of the free apps on IOS or even Android have some sort of in app purchase to make money as well.

The free versions of things like Team Viewer and Malwarebytes are there to sell the full versions, not because the developers are being nice. If they don't convert to enough sales, you could see those go away as well.

Auslogics has been bundling Ask for years, looks like they've up'd the annoyance game considerably with conduit.

But if they use something as vile as Conduit (may pigeons with no bowel control fill Conduit HQ to the ceilings) and people have to pay to get it extracted from their system, they're quickly going to end up on the wrong side of their own raison d'etre.

alternativly us techs may actualy get paid to remove this trash. Some customers do notice when their browser is hijacked. Lots of expats here have uk sites as start pages. Phones ring when "cant get email" = homepage changed from yahoo mail:rolleyes:

Sheer poetry.
Love it.

For the hell of it, I installed defrag, but never got around to running it, due to the bundled "extras" available from program manager/start button.

When I uninstalled it, it give me the option of commenting why I was removing it.
Now, I don't normally swear,....but I gave that comment box both barrels.

Dear Loring,

Thank you for your message and I am sorry there was an issue installing our software.
I would like to assure you that we do not include malware or viruses in our installers. We only work with reliable partners, whose offers are screened and tested to be malware and virus-free. If an installation is flagged by an antivirus program, it must be a false-positive, which unfortunately may happen with legitimate software. No third-party product is ever installed silently with our programs - you are always shown the offer first and given the option to decline it.
If you need help installing our software or uninstalling a third-party product you accidentally accepted while installing our software, please let me know and I will be happy to assist.

It wouldn't bother me if the program displayed Ads while running but sideloading software that force changes with toolbars and changing home pages is not worth it. I know that they have to make money but they crossed a line.
