System Specs
Mobo: ASUS ABN32-SLI
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2
RAM: 2gb

The issue

Windows 7 will not install 32bit and 64bit
Error message:
The Computer Restared unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error.

I found a resolution with Mick's IT Blogs
Changing the HKLM/SYSTEM/SETUP/status/ChildCompletion Setup.exe from 1 to 3.
After doing that however I could not get to create a user, it flashed a screen that I was unable to read or recreate as after formating and trying to reinstall the install phase would freeze.

Windows xp home sp2 or other windows xp editions
I can not get it past 70 percent. The install freezes or goes through but does not boot to the GUI install interface.

I installed Windows XP Pro SP3
issue:
I did not get to create a user and the computer can not boot into safe mode, safe mode with networking all it does is restart.

The hard drive is good, the video card, and all other parts is good. Ive done my reserch and found that this motherboard has compatiblity issues with
Windows xp Service pack 3, Windows vista, and Windows 7.

Is there anyone here who has troubleshooted this kind of issue with this motherboard. If so please help me. I am going no the third day of this issue.

Sincerely

What did you use to run your diagnostic tests? Did you just check the SMART data on the hard drive or did you actually run a full extended test?

Yes I've used the Western Digital Test.

Tested Methods
Western Digital Software
HD Tune

Installed Ubuntu on the ASUS mobo (worked without any complications)

Installed said hard drive into the docking station, installed windows with a different computer setup. Everything worked without any problems. All operating systems installed fine.

Every bit of things I have looked up point to the motherboard.
THe owner was attempting to update with a new windows 7 install. Running into the windows 7 issue posted of restart unexpectedly.

He said he would not mind having windows xp on there. However, there are still trouble with xp sp3. I can not download the bios update to resolve that issue due to a server side issue on asus end.

I would love to know how to get windows 7 to work with this motherboard. Other people from Windows 7 Forums have stated they were able to make 32bit and 64bit versions work.

what type of memory are you using? is it on the QVL on the asus website? have you looked at updating the bios.

Hi Eric,

Found this.....don't know if it will help or not.
Proceed at you're own risk, as I have not tried any of the suggestions noted.

Update

The computer finally took an old Windows xp sp3 disk I had laying around.
After that the bios was in need of an update.
Which I was able to do.

The pc is working with windows xp pro sp3.

As for the ram, I am not sure what kind of ram the pc has.

Thank you for the link(s) as well.

I would still love to figure out the windows 7 issue for further complications.

Thank you to those who helped and of those in the future that will continue to help.

Glad to see you got windows installed. Are you sure your DVD-ROM drive is good? I have had bad DVD-ROM drives that cause Windows to lock up or reboot during install and Linux to have kernel Panics...

I had the same problem this week. Ended up being a faulty DVD drive. I could read the disk in windows, but ever time I would try to install the OS it would would fail with errors.

Indeed! Especially since Vista and 7 usually install from DVD and XP from CD. A drive can have one faulty laser/circuit as there are different ones for DVD and CD in the same drive. Quite common for drives not to be able to read (or have IO/CRC errors) with DVD and not CD. Or vice versa.
