Apple recall: MacBook Air at risk of catastrophic SSD failure

No surprise here...have seen a few of those drives roll through here. There isn't much hope of recovery after they fail, that is for sure.

HA! Been waiting for this. We've seen a bunch of these, and customers haven't been happy with the response until now.

Funniest thing, several switched to windows after apple said "ok...and", and then they do a recall , something about having more issues with apple than with windows...how the tables rotated

Apple MacBooks and iMacs have a lot of problems. The pattern is always the same:

Hundreds of reports build up of a particular fault. Apple deny. More reports build. Apple deny. Finally something ticks over and bang it's recall or free replacement time.

Has happened with gpus loosing contact with logic boards around the time the lead free solder came out in 2007. They gave free repair of logic board for one model ( I had one - fried MacBook Pro - $1900 repair waved - as if anyone would pay that!). The model before that has exact same problem but no free repairs were issued.

Problems with yellowing screens on iMacs was common.

Hard drives fail in the iMacs a lot (heat?) not sure but I see a lot of them around. 3 years old.

Macs may be easier for people to use but they sure Aren't fallible. If u pay their expensive AppleCare extended warranty you get three years(!) instead of one

Anyhow, rant aside. Thanks for the update!

Yeah I have had 2 in so far and now there is a replacement program in Australia being rolled out.

The data is gone once it happens one of the lovely features of a SSD....
