Hi,

I have a client who wishes to change email hosting from their current IMAP solution provided by their web host to Hosted Exchange.

They currently use Apple Mail and intend to continue using it. There is a about half a dozen users, all with inboxes of a couple of GB roughly. I intend to add the exchange mailbox using EWS.

What I cant get my head round is what is the best plan of attck regarding migration. They will continue to use the same email client therefore they have all their email currently on their machines. I would like to have as little change from the users perspectice as possible.

Should I still upload the current mail stores before going live or is this something that can be done from within the email client? If I do upload the current mail stores what is the best way to achieve this as Apple Mail doesnt use PST files.

Any hints or advice greatly appreciated.

I'd use a centrally managed migration tool like BitTitans MigrationWiz.
Source server on the left window pane, destination server on the right window pane, line up the accounts/mailboxes, push "Go"..and watch progress bars move along as it copies e-mails over to the new mailboxes. This does the migration outside of the clients bandwidth, basically from server to server.
Once done, reconfigure the e-mail client.

^^^ What he said. Just use a migration tool. The process will be monitored and logged, etc, etc. When you go to add the new exchange one of the options in Apple Mail is Exchange. Now just be aware that this will not automatically update contacts and calendars like it does using the Outlook client.
