I have a clients HP 260 3 laptop here - just a service etc. Thing is the Wi-Fi is always limited - ethernet work fine.
Have uninstalled drivers - ran updates, still limited. Could the Wi-Fi card be on it's way out? I haven't seen one fail before so am unsure.
Can I get another card out of another laptop and would it work?

Thanks.

Always worth trying another card if you have tried everything else.
We keep a copy of W10 installed on an SSD for testing purposes and in a case like this we would try swapping the drive out for our install to see if it still has the same issue. If it doesn't then you know you have a driver/windows bug, if it does then its most likely a harware issue.

Also bear in mind HP have been known to use a whitelist, so your other card may nor may not work depending on its model and the model of the HP laptop, its quite hit and miss with HP.

Yes I've seen WiFi cards do this. Connect to network but not pass Internet packets. My experience has been as long as the wireless card is very similar it will work. You might have to plug in snappy to install the drivers but should fire up. I haven't seen the bios argue about a wifi in quite a few years. Used to be you had to almost match wifi cards exactly, even down to the revision but thankfully those days are mostly behind us.

you might try booting to linux first ...

I used to collect WiFi cards from failed laptops and had a box of them to try in this circumstance. Not so much any more as the box is full and I've gone into it maybe twice over the years.

I ended up getting a donor from another laptop here, thanked his family for the donor. Is working well after finding the correct driver for it.
Thanks all.
