activating xp

I am unable to connect to the activating server when trying to activate a dell optiplex gx280. I have re partioned and formated the hard drive . I can connect to the internet but when I try to activate I get a can't connect message.

Why not just use the phone option

If you used a dell oem it would not need to be activated

If you are getting the option to activate later (or if you can leave the product key blank and move on) you can usually activate over the internet from the desktop.

I am trying to determine why I get a can not connect error during activation but can connect to the internet using exployer .

Try safe mode with networking or call M$

I always use a Dell disc never had this problem

That fixed the problem the date was 2005 thanks
