Acer Aspire One not booting after "using" Ubuntu live

A friend brought me a Acer Aspire one with Meego OS installed on it. I connected it to a external CD and booted Ubuntu 10.10 with the CD version. I used ubuntu's disk manager and find that his HDD no longer has a windows installation (he wants dual boot and believed that his windows install is still in there, I would've gave LILO a shot and put in the boot info in there to make it dual boot)

He then request me to reinstall windows for him. I restarted using the reboot function in ubuntu. it shutdown normally. But now the netbook won't boot anymore. It stays dark screen and no external output. I removed all USB devices, still won't boot. I took it apart and reseated the RAM. Doesn't boot. the CPU fan spins. That's about the only thing I get.

How did a ubuntu "use" destroyed the netbook's ability to boot is totally beyond me. I haven't even touched anything serious.

If anyone has any advise... please...:(

I had an Aspire One in the shop last week. The owner dropped the thing and it wouldn't boot. I used an Ubuntu Live CD to do some diagnostics on the HD without any issues.

Pull the power, remove the battery and reset the CMOS.

Best of luck with that.

Sounds like a quintessence. I don't think booting ubuntu had anything to do with it.

All so Have you tried an external lcd on it failing that m/b or cpu

after a few monthes, I found the solution. It is corrupted BIOS

google aspire one BIOS rescue will yield a good site with instructions and BIOS image. follow the procedure and all is well.

turns out this series has a tendency for its BIOS to corrupt itself.
