Accepted as an AVG Reseller

Unfortunately I am forced to put this topic here as I otherwise have to wait 5 days and i'm in a hurry.

So, I was accepted as a reseller, that's all good, but I see they give me a 25% discount which means apart from buying directly from AVG I would be the most expensive seller on the internet according to Google shopping and ebay and amazon. I can pick up AVG Anti-Virus 2017 1 Year 1 Device for £6 on ebay, AVG will charge me £29. I could buy 2 years AVG ultimate for half that price! And let's not forget seller fee's when accepting any sort of payment method.

All in all it is impossible to profit from this as an onine seller so I wonder why they do it? and also, how do other get them so cheap?

AVG is rarely a recommend free antivirus, it has almost no chance as a paid solution.

I've used the free version on and off over the years, haven't installed or recommended
it in at least 3-4 years now. If your going to use a paid antivirus solution, there are just
much better options than AVG. Premium antivirus solutions are a hard sell in itself.

they sell like wildfire on ebay, so my personal opinion on the software is a bit irrelevent, what makes it impossible for me is being the most expensive seller online.. and i have no idea where their heads are at to put me in that situation :/

There's a high probability that the ones your finding on eBay are pirated licenses.

Or, they have done enough volume ( as loss leaders to start with), they are now on the platinum level discount. If there is such a thing.

I agree with the others, steer clear of avg. opt for something which is a lot better.

I resell Bit Defender Gravity Zone. It's a monitored solution. With a nice residual monthly income, compared to selling once, then receiving nothing else.

If @Nige is going to put in a plug I'll say I resell Emsisoft Antimalware.
Great support, licenses are competitively priced, and you can even manage licenses through Kabuto.

As Greg says above. There are alternatives to AVG. which may suit your requirements better than avg.

Agreed, I am a reseller for Malwarebytes also, although they don't allow resellers to sell on 3rd party market places which is a shame. I'm also a reseller for bitdefender and McAfee and Kaspersky and BullGuard. I guess I will give up AVG, just didn't understand how they expect anyone to make any sort of profit with that price.

With respect I'll also add that if you are trying to purvey software to clients and legitimise your business in the eyes of your clients, selling copies of an AV procured from eBay -IMHO - is not the best direction to be heading in.
Buying from a legitimate company that has recognised performance in the market place, support sites that actually go to a support area, contact links to real places, etc, etc will stand you in better stead with your clients.
BTW: The CEO of Emsisoft is actually a member on this very forum! Very comforting to know that there are real people behind the scenes.
My .02

When you start off, your margins are often low. But don't let that deter you (from doing the official reseller path with other products...although there are many good reasons to deter you from AVG).

As your sales volume and history grow with products, you often move up into higher reseller tiers, getting better prices (lower costs, thus higher margins), better services like support, SWAG, sales promotions, etc.

Not to mention, often a much easier way to manage clients licensing, and get those recurring "renewal" sales

Sounds to me like your reselling on ebay? Is that correct?
Well, I was. It was my main if only source of income. I had some problems with Malwarebytes, ended with with me getting in to a dispute with them over a certain seller who kept being reported yet his listing was never taken down however everyone elses was - Malwarebytes accuses ebay of ignoring their vero requests in regard to this seller, I created a duplicate listing of that certain sellers listing to demonstrate to Malwarebytes the pattern of his "getting away with it" while others were removed and due to this my account ended up restricted indefinitely just a few days ago. Therefore I am literally left with nothing, my partner would help me manage my account and I would pay her, she used that little money to live in her student dorm but she's now looking for another job, I've had to sell my bitcoins which has only given me about £2k to live on until i do something.. god knows what I'm supposed to do :/ everything has just crashed within a few days. so much for top rated seller - ebay are brutal! Its a chain reaction as I can no longer afford SEO for my website, I can't afford to restock, it has all come to a dead end.

CompTIA A+, Network+ and 7 years programming and web design.. other than that - nothing.

Thank you for this information. Are you now an active technician or not?

Reason I am asking these questions, is Technibble is a forum for computer repair technicians, and computer repair business owners only.

Not as a career, I previously worked in PC World at the tech bench and I then moved on to ecommerce which was going well for a short while.

edit: I guess I'm a "soon to be computer technician" at this rate I will have to go back to my old job

You have 7 years of programming experience, and your making a living off of selling software on eBay?

I'm all sorts of confused on that one. 7+ years of experience should comfortably land you around 100K + USD
per year in a software development position. If you were making more than that selling software on eBay
then kudos to you... My personal opinion is to find a software development job. Seems much more promising
then selling software online. Especially software like AVG

Thing is I've been there done that and simply lost interest, I'm one of those people who can't work on something and do a good job at it when I find it uninteresting and programming happens to be a career path where interest is key. I used to work when I was 17 for a local company who used mainly delphi (disgusting) either way, the interest in programming kept me employed and was actually one of the reasons why I was selected for the job. These days I just can't find it in me to sit at a desk writing code all day

If we assume the best, you've worked in software development for another company for 7-years. You found it unfulfilling and left. You then attempted to build a business selling consumer software on eBay. That too has fallen apart, which has brought you here. I have yet to read in any of your posts even a hint of a desire in building a repair business. There's also a HUGE difference between working on a tech bench at someplace called PC World, and actually running your own tech business. Perhaps if you were to tell us exactly what you want to do from this point forward in your life, someone might be willing to suggest a direction to go in. All I'm seeing so far is a guy who hasn't yet decided what he wants to do.
