A tool to find text strings in files

I'm looking for a tool that can search multiple files for specific text strings. EG: After a data recovery (where the drive has had to be scanned sector-by-sector for specific file headers and thus titles of documents are not recovered), you may end up with a folder with hundreds of word documents but only wanting one, but without opening each manually you can't tell what's what. I use a free hex editor called HxD that allows you to do a CTRL+F find and find text strings, but I'd like something that could cope more en masse. Anyone know of any command line/gui based apps that could do this?

Surely any search tool will do this including the one included in Windows?
