When you make a grilled cheese sandwich, do you:

a) butter both sides of the bread
b) butter the inside (touching the cheese)
c) butter the outisde (touching the pan)

I've just gotta know...

Don't use butter at all, there's enough saturated fat in cheese as it is.

Margarine, cuz that's what we buy :p. But more important than anything, it has to be cheddar cheese. None of that 'processed american food product' stuff.

If I butter, it's butter not marg and it's on the outside only.

I don't understand the point of using margarine, it's no match for butter, but I'm traditional from the farm folk.

Margarine only on the outside of both slices of bread and a nice thick slice of good cheddar cheese.

If you are in a real hurry or don't want to use the butter/margarine:
Put bread in toaster, throw on a slice of cheese and then microwave for like 10 seconds. Not as good as the real thing for sure but it works in a rush.

Personally I let my other half make them. Think he pan fry's the grill cheese sandwich on both sides with butter (we only use smart balance butter), puts the right amount of cheese, the bread from the local bakery (fresh yummy bread) and presto you have the best grill cheese in the world. Oh and you need some home made soup to go with the grill cheese, which he does very very well.

Thats how its done in my house. :)

Spread softened butter on the outside of the sandwich only (margarine is the devil's bicycle grease - yuck!!), use whatever cheese you find yummy, and grill in a pan - rinse and repeat as necessary ;) .

I find rinsing the pan after making each sandwich to be too time consuming. Gotta wait for the pan to re-heat up again... lame. :p

REAL butter on the outside of the bread and then a nice slice of cheddar cheese in the middle :D

REAL butter, TWO pieces of (natural) cheese, and butter on the outside (melted before I brush it on the bread.)

Friendly's

Went to lunch, thought of you guys, here it is, it was yummy:

If I make a normal cheese sandwich, then is a different story, but if I burn the gas then it's got to be:
- Good quality bread, the type of bread that when it gets old, it gets dry and hard not full of fungus.
- Cheddar cheese if I didn't make enough money that month, or real mozzarela cheese when I can afford it.
- The butter has to be real butter. In all the countries I've been, there is no natural butter like in UK and Ireland. The best butter in the whole world.

Since I didn't see it I'm going to say it...
A thin layer of mayonnaise on the outside instead of butter. You should try this because it is absolutely delicious. You should all try it. It is deliciouse-ier than butter.
