XP user account gone

A friend set up a second user account and not the original user account is gone. Could there be a simple fix to this or might this be a failing drive or something more involved?

Would system restore to an older point in time do the trick?

I'd give SR a shot. I'd think user error would be more likely than a bad drive. If it's the drive, it's amazing timing.

Most definately a user error i'm sure.

Try looking in advanced user management to see if you can still see the user profile, if not then a SR should get you running.

Would be quite spectacular if a bad drive caused such an event!

System restore did the trick! I wasn't expecting it to but it did.

Don't be too shocked. Thing how many things SR would be backing up from the profile folder -- it's got to be able to put them back during a restore, right?
