There is a place in town that is selling very new laptops with Windows XP and Office 2003 for $200. One of my clients had bought a HP nc6300 series about two months back and I was absolutely surprised at how much he paid. My thoughts are that the thing fell off the back of a truck and he met the guy at a gas station otherwise they would have charged something more reasonable. I'm patiently waiting for that "store" to be on the local news.
My rules on pirated software, music, and movies are simple:
We won't install illegal software or engineer fixes for illegal software to work but we won't turn away clients because of it. In most cases the client was unaware the software was illegal and they are victims of questionable businesses or overly helpful family members. On more than one occasion once I explain that legal music, movies, and software are virus free and my clients can either pay us to fix their computers or pay for legal licenses they see the light.
