Client had a workstation die a few months ago, I rebuilt it and was able to restore all of their documents.. They called today and said all documents are 0kb, i found the old data drive and restored the files once again. This time they are full valid files.

What we can't prove is the files (when copied) were not 0kb when I restored them, but we both said they can't imagine they never opened a document after the restore.

Oh and not all files were 0kb, most sub folders have the files intact.

Sounds like OneDrive or Dropbox or something was involved and may have had links to the files but not the actual files. Or some other kind of glitch when you copied the data back.

This can also happen if the directory tree is too long, ie; having hundreds of folders on the desktop with a path that's too long.

I used to run into this when restoring data. Would have to use a tool like Unstoppable Copier to force directories over.
