I had a customer stop in today and asked if i did wiring, like running cat5 etc
what do you guys usually charge for the hourly and the wire by the foot

its a new office , freshly sheetrocked but the builders were smart enough to have a small pipe lead to each outlet above the drop ceiling(which doesnt have tiles yet) so i wont have to really go fishing

i just dont know how to qoute it because i need had a job bigger than running 1 wire lol

I've done a couple local places here that needed wiring with wall jacks. I charged 65/hour although I probably could have gotten more. As far as the wiring I believe I charged $20.00 per 100ft.

I install structured cabling IAW BICSI standards. I usually charge $85 per drop. A drop is one cat 5 cable installed, terminated at both ends, tested, labeled, and documented. A certified cable cost a bit more.

This cost is based on an excel calculator that I built that calculates the price/cost based on current cost of materials, length of runs, etc.

I install 2 cables at each work station (2 drops) and at least 4 (4 drops) for a server/file room.

The above is based on an average of 200 foot cable runs.:)

I do this quit often, I charge by the drop, not by the hour.

I charge $100 per drop up to 100ft, that includes the run and the termination of the line (which includes the keystone jack and labled wall plate). This is for drop ceilings under 13ft with sheetrock walls.

More difficult runs (sheetrock ceilings, concrete walls) will cost at least $125 per run.

Hardware such as patch panels, routers, and switches are billed at cost plus my hardware up charge.

Im in NJ, I know some companys here start at $125 and up.

I do about $125 a drop. I use to charge alot lower but then i've run into so many crazy problems I decided to go on the other side of it and just charge $125 site unseen. So far this method has worked out much better.

I normally charge my normal business rate, $85/hr. If I need a second technician with me, I normally charge an extra $30/hr or so.

I charge $0.35/ft for cable.

Our pricing scheme is similar to ACG's. $100 per drop plus material for a standard drop (drop ceilings). Custom pricing comes into play for plaster and cement walls, etc.

We charge $100.00 per drop labor. This does not include the price of wire, jacks, plates, or patch cables. Cabling is billed by the foot @$0.35 per 1 foot. $0.50 per RJ45, $1.75 per keystone jack $2.59 per old work box, and face plates depend on the amount of drops to that location.

$100.00 labor is for unseen issues, like cement board back boards, for sound proofing. What a nightmare. We only do commercial wiring, with drop ceilings.

You guys are cheap... around here folks charge $170 a drop and easily get that kind of money.

The only thing preventing me from doing cable installs is the lack of a low voltage license that is required in GA.

I know this thread is old but I wanted to bump for some more input. When you guys say drop does that mean per cable run or per each time the cable drops from the ceiling?

So if you charge 40 per drop and you run/terminate one cable is that $40 or $80?

Drop = Per cable run

I charge $150 for single drop and $200 for dual drop up to 100 ft. Lines are certified with written report. Includes data jack but not patch panel or 110 block. Anything over 100 feet is 30 cents a foot. Grounding for patch panel and 100 block additional $35. Trenching and conduit extra by foot. Troubleshooting $65 flat rate per line.
