Wireless is DEAD - two laptops, SAME customer

First thing I tried on both was to slap a Ubuntu 9.04 disc in the drive and see if it had wireless. Negative. Didn't work in either computer. One was a newer HP and the one I have sitting here now is a Compaq Presario V6000.

In the first computer I took out the card, cleaned it up because it looked corroded and like something had been spilled on it, I'm getting ready to take the screws out and look at the card in this one after I hit post. Just wondering what the problem could be on TWO different brand laptops, made YEARS apart, the only common denominator is one belongs to the father, and one to the daughter. I don't think they even live in the same house so it can't really be the environment they are both in. I'm stumped. I couldn't fix the first one and didn't charge because it was my fault, I'd rather not do that with this one too!

All the 6000 series have the dead minipci bus problem. Sell them a usb wifi adapter.

Heh. Well, Compaq and HP just went on my **** list.

If the HP is a DVx000 series they have a known problem with the wireless adapter and bad MOBOs in general. Some are covered under a Limited Enhancement Warranty. I have gotten two repaired for customers at no cost.

HP and Compaq are the worst laptops on the market. All of their crap is well, crap. Almost all the work I do is on HP and Compaqs. Highest by far in board failures.

I'll make sure to remember this next time I say "well, unless you buy an Apple you buying the same thing" Haha. It's always been my experience anyway.

I wouldn't trade my Apple and AppleCare for anything. Although, like a jackass, I bought my most expensive mac yet and didn't get the AppleCare. That's going to come back and bite me in the butt, I'm sure. I'm out of warranty now, so let's just hope nothing goes wrong with this MBP I'm on. haha
