Hi people

I seem to be having a problem with activation of Windows XP Media Centre.

The product key is on the product key sticker on the bottom of the laptop. Tried to activate but no luck :(
Any Ideas????

What cd are you using if it is a reload? Often the key on the bottom isn't the one used in the load by the oem. Who are the manufacturers? I use www.restoredisks.com for disks but there is about a 2 week delivery as it is in the USA.

Aren't ALL Media Center OEM? I don't remember it ever being sold at retail.

Presuming that is correct, sounds like there is something else going on.

Yes I think they are so he needs the manufacturers cds then it should install without the key, well all of the ones I have done do.

I typically use Dell CD's for all major manufacturer's machines, as that's what I have the most of in my library. They install without asking for a product ID, will require activation on non Dell machines, but always activate without problem, once you enter the product ID from the sticker. That's why I said there was probably something else going on.

I agree Rick, the Dell cds are great. The problem with media center is not many techs have oem cds, you don't see media center often. i've done a couple recently and now have both HP and Dell versions from the Restoredisks site. As I say for us in the UK it usually takes a couple of weeks to get them.
