Windows disks and licenses

Hi

If a customer phones and asks me to repair their computer, and I end up having to do a windows reinstall, what disks can I use?

If they don't have/weren't supplied them can I use another disk and enter their product key? Wat if the product key is not on the outside of the computer somewhere?

Am a bit confused how licensing all works.

I am going to give you the most politically correct answer possible . . . as any other answer will surely start another debate . . . If they do not have recovery disks, then charge them for a reinstall and charge them for ordering new recovery disks.

1. You need to use the original disks that came with computer.

2.You can use a different disk as long as the same version as COA on the computer.

3.If COA missing, You'll have to buy a full version of Windows.

people the search function is there for a reason. When ever i have a problem i search first. here is a example i want to stock stuff in my van so i searched mobile stock and found everything i need. no need for a new thread.

I mean at least once a week a new comer asked about licensing. There is a sticky being made but until them please search people.

Sometimes I get a machine which has the serial missing. I simply reload the OS and type random characters when it asks for it.

I normally get a serial that works after 2 or 3 tries.

(Honest it is April Isn't it)
