Ok so it looks like its a common thing now, i have had two Asus and one PBell in the workshop with the same problem,

one Asus machine one has a black screen cant see to get into bios or do anything for that matter, checked memory and it works fine.

Asus machine two, i can attach it to another monitor and get it to boot. but cant get into the bios.

Pbell switches on sometimes, but is intermittent.

could do with a bit of help, what I have been told, Pbell its an update problem the windows 8 updates has a problem, let it sit on the black screen and it will come on, and actually it does but only because it rolls back any updates.

The Asus machines i have no idea at all, i think the main question is have any of you had this problem is it software or hardware?

My guess is if you are not seeing the POST screen then it has nothing to do with W8. Nothing personal but it sounds like you have not hit all of the trouble shooting steps. Start by striping down the boards to the bare minimum.

I had a similar issue with Dell computers and Hybrid sleep and had to reset the BIOS by pulling the battery.
Also recently had a 2 people who shutdown the system during updates and now all they get is black screen. Have not seen the systems but that was a problem in Win 7 and Vista I believe.

This is a bit of a shot in the dark but you might try slaving the drives and doing a CHKDSK /R on them. Apparently there is something users are doing in Windows 8 that can cause widespread NTFS problems. I've had a couple of machines here that were unbootable and unrefreshable, good hard drives, but totally hosed file systems.

Microsoft and Intel have made it very difficult to get into BIOS now on many machines (and don't get me started on Safe Mode). Keep trying, you'll figure it out, it's all part of Microsoft's, "Here's Windows 8 - F-You!" program.

I have hit all troubleshooting steps that i know including striping the board to bare, and adding good ram.

This is fast becoming a huge pain i have now got 5 laptops all with same symptoms, Windows 8 Machines, you switch them on and nothing the screen lights up but you cant see anything. cant get into Safe mode, bios or anything else for that matter.

i would consider myself good at troubleshooting but this has me ripping my hair out.

4 of the 5 are Asus machines, i have called them to be told to take a walk basically Microsoft have said there is a problem with drivers but nothing more than that.

I had a few acer laptops that were really annoying me because i couldn't get to bios. It wasn't until I read someone's post on here that you need to hold the bios-access key down (not just tap it over and over like I used to be able to do) and do it BEFORE hitting the power button, and keep holding it until you're in.

It was a super simple thing, but god its annoying when you are unaware of it. Maybe (probably) not the issue in your case, but its easy enough to try for the long-shot.

I had the same issue with not being able to get into safe mode you usually have to click on key before you press the power button. Because if you go over one or two seconds then it'll just boot into windows.

As for going into safe mode in Windows 8 is a big pain in the rear. Just boot up using the Windows 8 disc and go to troubleshooting and click on CMD. Upon entering enter the following command:
bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

Then just restart and F8 should work for you.

Wow, what models are they and are you getting the Asus logo at startup?

Try hitting the esc key as soon as the computer starts up. You should be presented with a number of boot options allowing you to trouble shoot it further.

Gary

No not getting anything you switch them on the screen lights up but no logo, almost like bad memory but thats all been checked.
