So far I have not seen any major issues on the 4 machines I have installed SP1 on. I have noticed that on the average machine it is taking between an hour to an hour and a half to install. The file size is huge... 925MB for the 64bit version! The 32bit version is about 551MB.

So I have noticed that on the average machine it is taking between an hour to an hour and a half to install.

Really? Are you talking about just installing the SP-1 on an existing Windows installation or a fresh Windows Install with the SP slip-streamed into the media?

Installing SP1 on an existing Windows system. I have been doing some more tests around it, and it appears that the more data the machine has on it the longer the install takes. I am beginning to think that it may be doing some kind of Malicious Software Removal scan during the install... but then again I may just be imaging things!

i installed it slip-streamed on one of my main pc's and the installation was quicker than the regular windows 7. i noticed a few speed improvement and definitely fixed some of the glitches i was having!!

Excuse the low-level question, but how did you obtain your copy of Sp1? MSDN?

Currently attempting via Windows Update without success.

Thanks for that one, typically used it at work never thought to solve my own issues with it. lol

Thanks again. :D

I've installed it on a couple of machines, so far.

The file size from Windows Update on up to date PCs was about 90-100 MBs. The installs have then around 30 minutes. These were 64-bit machines.

I installed it on 16 Windows 2008 R2 servers at work and my personal laptop & desktop... & 4 desktops at work.

No problems to report anywhere with it.

So is the avg. time for install an hour or so? Less? When I did the install on my server at home, it did take an hour for me. So is this the normal thing for installing SP1 on windows 7?

Took between 30 minutes and 1 hour to install it on each server. What I did was remote into each one via Remote Desktop then launch the installer and select automatic restart and disconnect.

The Power Edge 2800 servers took about an hour. The Power Edge 2900 and R710 servers took considerably less time.

Either way, it was no big deal because they did not need to be intentively watched durring the installations.

The main WIM tool is DISM... command line.

I am just waiting for the media and .iso for SP1 to come out already integrated from Microsoft.

I am going to wait for the iso from Microsoft as well, too much work and overhead to slipstream the SP1 into the source.

I am just pushing out the SP1 update through MDT when I install new systems. It does not take anymore time than it used to do for windows updates.

Yes, but it is not official from Microsoft therefore not appropriate for me. In contrast nLite uses a supported Microsoft procedure for the integration. If I knew more how this worked, I would be more interested; I think.

Service Pack 1 is a different size depending on the computer. It can be anywhere from around 60mb, to around 1gb. I'm not sure what exactly it's doing in there, but it doesn't seem to be a bad thing.
