Customer left room while updates were installing. Came back and laptop had restarted does automatic diagnostics then goes to reboot or advanced screen.
Under advanced there are no restore points. Can't do uninstall latest quality or feature update. Tried to run dism.exe. Cleanup-image option is unknown.
Don't know what else to try. Don't want to reload if I don't have to. Windows 10 Pro with a virtual box setup
for XP and an old proprietary software. Just setup a couple months ago.

If there are no other boot options (command line?) then I don't see much else other than N&P. DISM should run from command line if pathing is correct.

I can run DISM from command line but it tells me Cleanup-image option does not exist.

Is your syntax correct? Where are you telling it to get an image from?

What version of Windows? If not 1809 you might want to try command line KB4505056 (1809).

Did you run check disk? Or pull the drive, slave to another machine and run crystal disk or something similar. It's rare but I've had drives that have run fine for years. Then a large update hits new space with bad sectors.

Or maybe?

Dism /Image:C:\ /Get-Packages

Dism /Image:C:\ /Remove-Package /PackageNameKB######

I ran checkdisk. Have not pulled or run Crystal disk. It is a Crucial SSD that was fresh installed about 2 months ago.
The dism commands like Get-Packages tell me option unknown.

Can you get to the advanced options and remove latest updates from there?

I had this last week and it would do its diagnosis then give me advanced options and allow me to select the option to remove latest updates.

This got it going again

SSD? Move on. They aren't like spindles. If it was me I'd just image it to a spindle and see if I can rebuild from there.
