Also remember that Comcast is letting anyone with a Comcast account connect to any Comcast wifi modem..
BT / Telefonica / FON users have the same deal in UK / EU, and it is ON by default.

Also remember that Comcast is letting anyone with a Comcast account connect to any Comcast wifi modem. I'm sure all the other providers will follow soon. So at some point it won't matter... unless you get your own router... your on access point...
Sounds like a new service to offer...I would make sure that it had an unfortunate electrical accident as I was unplugging it.
If you are allowed to replace it then that thing would go in to the trash. Or if I am forced to return it, I would make sure that it had an unfortunate electrical accident as I was unplugging it.
They let you replace it, I always tell clients to replace it. Since they charge $7 per month to lease it and I believe it goes up to $10. I tell the clients buy the proper modem for $65 on eBay and let's get a proper wireless router in place. Only 2 have taken me up on that offer, the rest keep getting shafted. Not my fault lol.
I have Charter and have my own modem. They can't force you to use only their modem. But the catch is if there is a problem the first thing they will point at is the third party modem. And for many that is an argument they do not know how to win.
I would experience a lot of ping loss and Connection would go from 50 mbps to around 20 all of sudden. Kept telling them it has nothing to do with my connection and it was wiring that was probably degrading on the outside of the house or something. Sure enough that was the issue.
Getting ready to do battle with Comcast on the exact same issue at another site. Set them up with a new ERLite 3 and fixed IP. They are still having random latency issues. So I'm building up some log files to throw back at Comcast.
Because everyone lives in a house and there are no such things as apartment complexes? Last place I lived I could see 30ish wifi networks, many owned by people I knew by proxy, and several of whom I did not like. Why are you worried about your wi-fi password? Are you afraid a bunch of people are going to drive over to your house to use your crappy wi-fi?

If you see a bunch of people in front of your house using your WF I can understand, but I wouldn't worry about that. I work for a ISP and deal with WF all day long, and this is the story and all you need to know about WF:
A mouse became famous for coming up with the idea of putting a bell on the cats neck so he could never sneak up on the mice again. The only problem was, how to get the bell on the cats neck? This is WF, its a wonderful idea, but no one has came up with, how to get the bell on the cats neck.WF doesn't work very good at all, the military, pilots, cops, they have all the good frequencies. For some reason the government thinks a pilot with 200 passengers at 40k feet is more important than you posting your dog licking his balls on Facebook. I know its not right but that's our government for ya. Or as I said to a lady complaining the other day about her WF working from her home, "Let me put it this way lady, of the 1500 agents that work here, you know how many use WF? Ah...none that I know of, we have it, but we dont use for anything. And certainly not for anything work related, if its important use a wire, 'Oh I tried to send that spreadsheet, but a bug must have flew by.' Dont even bother with it, it sucks, copper is still king.
