So I have a Windows 10 laptop that has a ton of viruses and pop ups could not do anything in regular mode so I had the bright idea to run msconfig and set the boot options to safe mode. In regular mode the user had a swipe lock setup. rebooted sadly its now asking for a password that the user does not know what it is. Is there a way to break the safe mode cycle I created and get it back to booting into windows normally?

I dont have much experience with windows 10 safe mode. Did you do safe mode with networking? Is it a microsoft account perhaps you can reset the password from a browser if its safe mode with networking and it can connect to the internet. (uncertain if it shows microsoft account in safe mode again lack of experience here).

Can you edit the bcd via a boot disc or something?

it comes up with a username and its a gmail account but the password he uses for his gmail account does not work. we reset his Microsoft account that is associated with the gmail account and that didn't work either. yes its safe mode with networking and I am on the wireless. strangely in the system start up there is no way to change the boot priority to usb or cd. I was going to try konboot

Well in my limited windows 10 safe mode with networking experience I have seen wifi not function. Could you try connecting it via an ethernet cable and see if maybe that updates his password that you reset via the microsoft account website

it says he is connected to my wireless but strangely when I hard wire it in that does not seem to be working. also strange I have tried to enter a password 2 dozen times and never was I prompted that I was going to get locked out. would think I would eventually. I was able to pop the drive out and backup his data. inspiron 14 5000 I don't like it lol. factory restore is not working either.

Oh well then you could edit the bcd using the other computer you hooked the drive to. I don't really use the bcdedit much I use easybcd or bootice but its been a while since I don't do in person repairs much.

You mean you cannot get into BIOS?

I can get into BIOS but in boot settings and advanced boot settings there was no option to actually set USB, CD or Hard drive in a different order and it will not boot from a cd boot disk or usb bootable device as is. I assume I have to change something back to legacy but with everything else the battery is now dead and they didn't leave it with me and none of my universal connectors fit this LT. waiting for the user to drop off there cord. thanks

Couldn't boot to the command prompt either with out knowing the password. Purchased the newest version of Kon Boot and I was able to use it to get to the command prompt create a new user and add it to the admin usergroup and got back in turned off boot to safe mode in msconfig and now doing clean up
