If I upgrade a Windows 10 Home laptop to Pro buying upgrade from the MS store
Suppose after a while, the laptop has an unrepairable problem and I buy a new laptop with Home can I use the license I bought from the store to upgrade again

Nope, the anytime upgrade only upgrades the install on the specific machine in question. If you want portability, buy a retail Windows 10 Pro seat.

Oh, and the upgraded platform can be fresh installed Pro, just do the ei.cfg hack on the install media, pick Pro, and tell it you don't have a key.

Details here:https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...ration-and-product-id-files--eicfg-and-pidtxt

The ei.cfg I use looks like this:
Code:
[Channel]
_Default
[VL]
0

Thanks, that's what I expected I have to do some upgrades tomorrow and want them to know.

They think it works like music on the Apple store

For those of you boing business computers great. Even though I seldom see update issues with my home user base, I could use the income from those break/fix clients if there is a problem.

There's plenty of that in the business side as well. QB is a wonderful source for me.

Relying on repeat business of a defective product feels dishonest to me. So I make the recommendation, and if they don't follow it... Sure, I make a few bucks. But the thing is, those clients don't stick around... ever.

Every user is signing into the store with their own private M$ account and I am paying with the boss's America Express. maybe I should be buying them all with the boss's M$ account when I log in to the store on each computer, probably does not make any difference, would rather do it right.
also, it won't accept a domain company email

They told me they're getting some kind of enterprise anti-virus from the UK and it needs Pro.
it's expensive in Canada 40 laptops to do with tax $145 each
it's hard paying despite it being somebody else's money.

I did 12 yesterday chose pro paid and I got Windows 10 enterprise instead un-activated on 4 laptops.
had to call M$ Store they gave me another number to call, called they also gave me another number when I got thru I was passed from tech to tech then he said the system is down and to call back in 3 hours.
I had to leave and gave the client the number to call.

What if you went for a new pair of glasses and the assistant said to come back later my glasses are out of focus and not working properly would ever go back.
