Had my first customer with a forgotten Windows 10 (Local Account) NOT MICROSOFT ACCOUNT password today.

I have used Kon Boot for Windows Vista and 7 computers previously, so purchased the new version 2.5 that is 8 and 10 compatible

Pretty straight forward to make the EFI compatible Kon Boot USB stick boot drive

Then I entered the BIOS/ UEFI setup on the computer disabled secure boot and and then set the computer to boot to usb/external device first.

Kon Boot runs and then you can login to the computer without the password. I then created a new admin account signed out and then logged into the new account. Once signed into the new admin account I did the following

1) Navigate the Start Menu to Control Panel
2) Select “User Accounts and Family Safety”
3) Select the target User Account (the one you want to change)
4) Select “Change the password”
5) Input the new information for the account and click “Change password”
6) you are done

After confirming that the locked out account was now accessible I went back into the BIOS/UEFI setup and re-enabled secure boot.

Checked everything was ok and then delivered back to customer

Hope this helps

Is it really worth the $200 price tag?

At the time I was in a pinch with a customer, but I always look at purchases for my business through the lense of tax liability. By the time you add up federal, state and employment tax, 40% of all business profit would go to the government anyways. So the way I look at it, a $200 purchase really only costs me $120. I also use it for boot repair and sniffing around the registry. The tool paid for itself the first month. I quite often do these while people wait. To ward of questions like, "You are going to charge me X money to do a job that only takes X minutes", I always tell them I have a rather expensive tool that I use to perform this task. People often equate value to how much time you spend on their repair. People need to be reminded that while the time you spend factors in, you also have to factor in what you invest in your tools and also your own education/skills.

I used the free version Kon-Boot v1.0 years ago and now the latest version is not free. Now I like to use PCUnlocker Live CD and it supports Windows 10 UEFI secure boot.

... but the Business license doesn't mention ...

I'd have to clarify, but I thought the Business license is for business use for 1 seat. Unlimited is you can have as many seats as you want.

BTW - The makers of the software are almost invisible and are hidden away behind multiple layers it seems which always bother me. Regardless - I've used this software for many years with good results.

It's the use of the program to provide service to customers, that I was pointing out. You could use the Business license within your own business, so long as it's not to provide a service to your customers, is the way I understand it. The OP was about doing just that, so the Business license would be moot.

Hmm.... I may have to re-evaluate how I use the program. I like it but wouldn't pay $200 for it.
