Had my first customer with a forgotten Windows 10 (Local Account) NOT MICROSOFT ACCOUNT password today.
I have used Kon Boot for Windows Vista and 7 computers previously, so purchased the new version 2.5 that is 8 and 10 compatible
Pretty straight forward to make the EFI compatible Kon Boot USB stick boot drive
Then I entered the BIOS/ UEFI setup on the computer disabled secure boot and and then set the computer to boot to usb/external device first.
Kon Boot runs and then you can login to the computer without the password. I then created a new admin account signed out and then logged into the new account. Once signed into the new admin account I did the following
1) Navigate the Start Menu to Control Panel
2) Select “User Accounts and Family Safety”
3) Select the target User Account (the one you want to change)
4) Select “Change the password”
5) Input the new information for the account and click “Change password”
6) you are done
After confirming that the locked out account was now accessible I went back into the BIOS/UEFI setup and re-enabled secure boot.
Checked everything was ok and then delivered back to customer
Hope this helps
