Windows 10 doesn't offer IE11 as a default option

Has anybody seen this before and have a solution? Client asked me to do a Windows 10 upgrade from Windows 7 on a clean Dell XPS system. Everything went smoothly and works fine, except IE is not offered as an option to set as the default browser. IE works fine when I choose to use it, it shows up checked in Windows components, and Windows search pulls it up with no issues.

Client machine has IE, Edge, Firefox and Safari on it, and both the desktop app and the control panel app for setting defaults give me the option to choose any of those browsers but IE. Of course, client prefers IE and has a million favorites there, etc. And even if I could convince the client to use a different browser, there is clearly something wrong with the system regardless.

Have tried Windows Repair All in One, SFC / scannow, and am currently running DISM. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Should have done a clean install of 10.

Set the default browser to something else, like chrome and then try again. Also reset IE to defaults.

Also, which "default settings" program are you using? The Windows 10 Metro app or the classic one in the old control panel?

Tried both, same thing. IE just not an option. Tried setting to Firefox, no change. DISM completed quickly with no issues found. Created a new user profile, same issue.

Yes, that didn't fix it either.

Backup the data and do a clean install. The machine probably hasn't had a clean install since new.

Got it fixed, just for future reference it was easy (hardest part is almost always finding the solution, isn't it?). Running the command in option 3 of this link sorted it out for me, in case anybody runs into this issue later.
