Windows 10 Creators Spring update.

Gonna grab the image tonight when I get home. Completely forgot to do it last night. I will be running it on my test laptop. Going to wait a bit before I even try on my personal machine.

I launched the Media Creation tool last night... but was already offered 1803 on my wife's machine after I used Windows Update to check for the latest video driver! Her machine already points to my internal WSUS address/port! And in addition I had ethernet networking set to Metered! And it still began the 1803 update!! I rebooted before it got far enough to hurt.

I doubt very much that EAM has anything to do with it. I've got two identical systems here both with Emsisoft that updated without a hitch.
However a third system (laptop) is frozen at 99% and has been for 5 hours.
This is the third time I've tried to update this one as it gets to 88% or 92% or 99% and freezes the whole system requiring hard reset.
it also has EAM installed.
What really shunts my carriages is that it cannot be stopped from updating.
I've tried everything but it still starts the update automatically.

Have you made sure you have no USB devices plugged in ie printer, wireless keyboard etc

tried three times to install it last night via Win update, and all three froze my PC, requiring a hard restart. Tried again before bed, leaving it on all night: frozen at 16% this morning. <sigh> maybe if I ignore it, it will go away. Disabled Emsisoft this morning so we'll see what happens as it tries again.

EDIT: Finally got it installed (with EAM disabled, although that may be unrelated). When I originally started to download the installer and didn't realize Windows update was also downloading it, the world stopped turning there for a bit.

Well crap....I came into the same problem. got to about 12% and locked the computer up hard. I can't get into it with TV anymore LOL. I'll have to check it out when I get home.

Its a laptop with nothing other than a network cable plugged in.

@add:
I've got another laptop in just now that the client tried to upgrade last night. It's freezes at 14% with a hard lockup.

Little side note, I installed 1803 on my personal machine from a flash drive. I left the Ethernet connection to the Internet set to "metered". (Frankly I never thought about it making a difference!) Later I found many of the hardware devices remained uninitialized and the dialog showed it was due to the metered connection not downloading current drivers. Turning off the metered connection was enough to fix it.

I looked around and didn't find anyone mentioning this but I may have missed it somewhere. The Spring update also brought local password recovery options to the setup. When you create a new account and type a password it makes you set up security questions. The only way I've found to go around it is to create the account with no password and then set the password once inside the account. Why can't they make that optional? :(

HECK YES! I'm not so freaking stupid that I'd forget my password. And even if I did, it's possible to recover it. It's not a stupid Microsoft account. Thanks for the tip. I won't be setting any passwords next time during the initial setup. Those security questions are so freaking STUPID! I mean, people are so stupid they can't even remember their passwords - let alone remember the answer to THREE security questions AND be able to spell the answers CORRECTLY. This is a recipe for disaster.

Crap! I just installed 1803 on my living room Intel NUC (i5 w/256 SSD). Everything went fast and furious until the final reboot. It hung. I hard booted and it started up saying it's restoring the previous version of Windows. Pffft! This was the fourth one today. No issues on the others. I'll retry........

Had to roll-back my wife's machine to 1709. Chrome kept spinning the Cryptographic services module and was sluggish to the point of unusability. Reset and reinstall made no change to symptoms. She's my toughest customer so I rolled back and everything is back to normal.

I got my home desktop installed with it finally. I used the upgrade assistant and it was smooth as butter. Yet, going through the windows update section it was hung like a Moose.
